Position Requirements:

 

The Staff Software Engineer shall:


  • Perform corrective, adaptive, and software maintenance on the system software baseline.

  • Develop enhancements to custom software and customize commercial software for system application.

  • Use structured design methods and programming techniques.

  • Investigate software problems and propose solutions.

  • Document coded software changes and upgrades. Perform unit testing on software changes.

  • Convert or modify software from one machine or language to another.

  • Prepare and maintain software documentation.

  • Furnish day-to-day support to operational software.

  • Review proposed changes assessing the impact and risk on software configurations.

  • Assist with integration and test.

  • Participate in system builds

  • Provide day-to-day software support to integration and test, and field support activities.

  • Propose software design changes and upgrades after assessing the implementation risk to the operational software architecture.

  • Perform in-depth studies, trend evaluations, statistical analyses, and hardware and software vendor evaluations.

  • Prepare special reports that identify risks, suggest options, and provide resource expenditure estimates associated with system enhancements.


 

This position requires either a Bachelors degree (or higher) in a technical discipline and at least 3 (three) years experience or no Bachelors degree and at least 7 (seven) years of experience on a technical staff in their related field of expertise.

 

This position requires general experience in one or more of the following:


  • Software design

  • Software coding

  • Software integration

  • Testing and maintenance

  • Database design

  • Database maintenance

  • LAN/WAN Technologies

  • Web browsers

  • Troubleshooting interfaces between dissimilar systems

  • Building/applying software updates to operating systems and layered products from commercial vendors


 

Additionally, this position requires specific Client, Server or Database experience as described below:

§         Client Experience – Four years minimum experience in any combination of C, C++, JAVA, Macintosh Operating Systems, COTS integration and customization in Apple Client.

§         Server Experience – Four years minimum experience in any combination of software development in UNIX environment/SUN Solaris and COTS integration and customization in SUN servers.

§         Database Experience – Four years minimum experience in any combination of administering Sybase relational databases to include: Opbimizing database performance, redesigning the database structure and/or the loading/reloading of data into the database, developing relational database software using Structured Query Language (SQL), experience with more relational database products (i.e., Sybase), and developing software for the UNIX (i.e., SOLARIS) operating system.
