The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) is the standard used by Federal statistical agencies in classifying business establishments for the purpose of collecting, analyzing, and publishing statistical data related to the U.S. business economy.
For ease of use, the system is setup in a hierarchy starting with two digit NAICS codes in broad categories such as: 54 Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services. You can drill down from the two digit code, to three, four, five, and six digit codes. The six digit codes are the most specific - and are the codes used by the Federal government in classifying specific solicitations and opportunities.
