Predicting Crime's Future a Growing Business Opportunity
Knowing where to fight crime is becoming one of the many tools that police agencies are using to reduce crime rates while they experience reductions in state and local funding. Though the technology isn't up to the level seen in the movie "Minority Report," where criminals are arrested for crimes they haven't yet committed, the use of "predictive policing" is increasingly becoming a cost-effective strategy for delivering a higher level of public service without increasing taxpayer cost.
In a wrap-up to Crime Prevention Month, Deltek Senior Analyst Jeff Webster talked about the growing use of "Predictive policing: A force multiplier for cash-strapped police departments" and described how this new form of statistical analysis is helping agencies "to better manage personnel, time and resources."
GovWin caught up with Webster to tell us on camera what predictive policing is, what municipalities are using the latest data mining tool, what opportunities small businesses should look for and how to find predictive policing grant money set aside by the Department of Justice.
If your company has experience with capturing and analyzing data for trends, predictive policing might be a new revenue source for your current or future budget.
